Are alcohol expectancies associations, propositions, or elephants? A reply to Wiers and Stacy (2010).

We provide a response to a commentary by Wiers and Stacy (see record 2009-24669-003) on our model of the alcohol–behavior link (see record 2009-09537-002). Whereas Wiers and Stacy generally supported our model, they took issue with our conceptualization of the alcohol expectancy construct. We address the major concerns of Wiers and Stacy by demonstrating that our own view is consistent with basic cognitive scientific conceptualizations of the nature of associative and propositional reasoning within a dual-systems framework. In clarifying these issues, we maintain that although the predictions presented by Wiers and Stacy are important and useful in this area, they are predictions that can be derived from our original formulation of the alcohol–behavior link. We conclude that this kind of useful debate can only aid the generation of conceptually consistent and testable models that will advance the understanding of the alcohol–behavior link. For the purpose of investigating the ability of the unit's processing and its performance, several properties have been checked, including process capacity, material balance, overall energy consumption, product quality, and so on.

Polymer–Ferrocene Conjugates Containing an Ester Function in the Connecting Links

Ferrocene, the parent of the metallocene family of organotransition metal compounds, has come to occupy a significant niche in cancer research. Developmental work in the authors' laboratory has been focused on the synthesis of antiproliferative ferrocene conjugates in which the bioactive ferrocene unit is covalently, yet bioreversibly bound (anchored) to water-soluble carrier polymers designed in accordance with requisite biomedical specifications. The anchoring link in most of these conjugates has been an aliphatic spacer containing the biofissionable amide group. In this communication the synthesis of a class of ferrocene conjugates is reported in which the ferrocene group is carrier-anchored through spacers containing an ester link, of interest here because of potentially different drug release behavior. The carriers are polyamides equipped with variously spaced hydroxyl side groups, to which the ferrocenylation agent, 4-ferrocenylbutanoic acid, is connected through esterification. The coupling reactions, mediated by carbodiimide agent and catalyzed by 4-(dimethylamino)pyridine, are carried out in DMF at temperatures not exceeding 65°C, and the water-soluble product polymers are isolated in yields of typically 70–85% by precipitation, aqueous dialysis, and freeze-drying. With the molar feed ratios chosen in these coupling experiments, the incorporation of ferrocene, assessed by ¹H NMR spectroscopy, corresponds to iron contents of roughly 2.5–5.5%, by mass. The conjugates will be included in a forthcoming bioactivity screening program.

Return Link Systems for Wireless Mobile Camera Using 42 GHz-Band with Frequency and Space Diversity Techniques

In this paper, return link systems for wireless mobile camera using 42 GHz-band in multipath fading environments are proposed. The return link systems for wireless mobile camera require wireless transmission with high reliability as same as the conventional wired camera systems. The proposed return link systems achieve transmission with high reliability by taking into consideration frequency and space diversity techniques. The proposed systems can be classified as 3 three types of return link systems according to diversity techniques： FD （frequency diversity） systems, SD （space diversity） systems and FD＋SD system （frequency and space diversity）. Computer simulations are carried out in order to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed return link systems. It is confirmed that the proposed three types of return link systems have an advantage about BER performances and effectively exploit frequency and space resources.
